Skull and Backbone

Skeleton, the supportive framework of an animal body. Organisms that have skeleton made up of bones are called as vertebrates. Invertebrates on the other hand do not have skeletal made up of bones. In this section, we will study about protective bone structures present around brain and spinal cord. Brain is protected by skull and spinal cord is protected by vertebral column.

The Skull 

The skull is the bony structure that surrounds and protects your brain. It contains holes for your eyes, ears, nose and mouth. The upper part is made up of 8 flat bones form the brain box or cranium which encloses and protects our brain .The face and jaw contain 14 bones. Your teeth are fixed to the jaw bones. The lower jaw bone is the only movable bone in the skull. It enables you to chew food and talk.
